We currently have the following full-time RN opportunities in our state-of-the-art Cancer Center at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, CA.
INFUSION RN
The incumbent will provide assessment and nursing intervention in all areas of Infusion Therapy when requested by physicians and/or clinical trial protocols in the outpatient setting. Will perform the nursing process through individualized assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of safe, therapeutic, efficient and quality care for patients consistent with the unit’s standard of care. This includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IV therapy and blood transfusions. Treatment methods include intravenous, subcutaneous and injections. The Infusion RN must demonstrate competency in accessing porta-caths and PICC lines as well as peripheral venous access and case management intervention. The RN is responsible for case management and care coordination across all cancer care providers and the continuum of care. The Infusion RN will coordinate patient care and implement patient specific treatment plans ordered by physicians. Provides effective education, educational resources, and support to patients and their families. Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other and work with the patient’s entire care team to advocate on the patient’s behalf. Contributes to the educational process for patients, staff and self. Promotes clinical effectiveness, efficient use of resources, and quality care in a practice setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: BSN preferred.
Experience: Two years of chemotherapy administration experience working as an outpatient infusion RN in a clinic, physician office or hospital setting. Oncology Ambulatory Infusion Center experience preferred. Must have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and excellent customer service and service recovery skills.
License: Current California RN license; BLS and ACLS certifications; ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card; OCN certification preferred. Ongoing education of 12 cancer related continuing nursing education hours annually will be required.
RN ONCOLOGY NURSE NAVIGATOR
Under the direction of the Corporate Director of the Cancer Center, the Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is responsible for facilitating the patient experience for patients as well as family members from cancer diagnosis to survivorship. The ONN is a patient advocate, care coordinator, educator, and offers psychosocial support and connection to community resources. The ONN functions on the multidisciplinary team and builds relationships with the care team to ensure patients receive timely access to quality care and comprehensive services. The ONN serves as a clinical resource with expertise in hematology/oncology care management. The incumbent will also serve as ambassador and representative of the Oncology Program in community events and market/promote the service line to increase business volume for the Hospital.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
Experience: Three years of nursing experience in an oncology setting, including medical or surgical oncology practice, infusion center, radiation oncology, or inpatient oncology unit. Previous experience in oncology nurse navigation preferred. The successful candidate will have proven working relationships with physicians; patient education experience; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent customer service and organizational skills; ability to manage a full suite of tasks and across numerous priorities and to service line to meet established deadlines; empathy, patience, understanding, courtesy and kindness to all patients, their families, physicians and other hospital staff; and the ability to focus on long-term goals while managing day-to-day operations. The incumbent will exercise initiative, creativity and courage to act in the best interest of the patient and possess confidence to interact with stakeholders at all levels, including patients/ family, co-workers, providers, physicians and administration. Spanish speaking is a plus.
License: Requires California RN License and BLS, with the ability to obtain ACLS within 90 days of hire. ONS certification preferred. Ongoing education of 12 cancer related continuing nursing education hours is required annually.
