The Clurman Lab (https://research.fredhutch.org/clurman/en.html; TST and Human Biology Divisions) works at the intersection of two fields: cell cycle control and the ubiquitin system. While our work focuses on both tumorigenesis and fundamental regulatory mechanisms in normal biology. Our overall goal is to apply new mechanistic insights to understand cancer development and develop new therapeutic strategies.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to study the molecular control of the cell cycle in both normal and neoplastic contexts. This work will focus on cyclin E-CDK2 activity and regulation in cancer and in normal cells. This includes studies of new substrates, understanding how cyclin E activity and regulatory mechanisms may be therapeutically leveraged, and how cyclin E promotes tumorigenesis. One area of current focus includes studies of head and neck squamous cell cancer. This work will encompass a broad array of approaches, including cell and molecular biology, gene targeting in mice and human cells, and large-scale genomics and proteomics. We value lab members who are highly collaborative but can also independently develop and guide research projects.
Qualifications
- PhD, M.D., or M.D., Ph. D (or equivalent degree) in cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Broad expertise in cell and molecular biology methods and the ability to master new techniques and approaches.
- Experience with genetically engineered mouse models of cancer is preferred.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
