Position Overview This role serves as a comprehensive healthcare provider, delivering follow-up care, assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic procedures within the scope of advanced nursing practice. Working closely with Medical Oncology physicians, you'll manage care for clients during outpatient clinic visits and provide inpatient support as needed. This position operates within a framework of established nursing standards, policies, and protocols, and offers the opportunity to give specific care directions to patients, families, and staff when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessments: Conduct comprehensive assessments, utilizing both medical and psychosocial history, and physical examinations. Keep physicians informed about patient care needs and issues. Critical Thinking & Diagnostics: Apply strong critical thinking and time management skills, prioritizing care based on assessments and test results. Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records. Ensure documentation provides justification for therapies ordered and is in line with reimbursement protocols. Care Planning: Collaborate with attending physicians to create comprehensive care plans, including pharmacologic selections, referrals, and end-of-life care. Clinical Procedures: Implement clinical treatments and procedures with expert knowledge and technical competency. Make appropriate referrals when necessary. Communication: Foster positive relationships with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues. Share relevant information with team members and supervisors effectively. Patient Education: Provide patients and families with educational resources on drug use, side effects management, and anticipatory care. Participate in both formal and informal teaching of nurses, students, and healthcare professionals. Research: Oversee and participate in the cancer center’s clinical trials program, including managing research nurses, maintaining financial records, and reporting progress. Performance Improvement: Contribute to the department's performance improvement initiatives and help identify areas for improvement. Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as needed. Experience in a hospital or acute care setting Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in basic computer programs and electronic health records Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle crisis situations Exceptional customer service skills for patients, team members, and visitors Credentials
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Additional Information A clinical preceptorship in Medical Oncology or at least five years of experience in clinical oncology nursing is required.
Compensation
