The Fred Hutch Organizational Development and Learning group seeks a creative and experienced Instructional Designer to join our dedicated, engaged team. This role is pivotal in developing and delivering high-quality content and training programs for employees across our research and clinical enterprise. You will collaborate with other learning professionals, subject matter experts, and our Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator.
Responsibilities
This role is expected to split into approximately 70% instructional design and 30% LMS support.
Instructional Design (70%):
- Design, develop and oversee the production of learning program materials (e.g., e-learning modules, instructor-led training, job aids, and assessments.)
- Use instructional design theories, practices, and methods to create content that enhances learning and retention.
- Set instructional design strategy and create standards for new programs and resources developed by the team.
- Gather and analyze learning needs. Align learning outcomes to ensure training programs meet organizational goals and learner needs.
- Drive collaboration and design review processes for new materials with other content developers on the team.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop effective, and innovative instructional materials.
- Evaluate effectiveness of learning and development programs and utilize relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
- Participate in and/or lead learning projects, as required.
- Stay current on and share industry trends and best practices in instructional design and training.
LMS Support (30%):
- Assist the LMS Administrator as they manage and maintain the Learning Management System, including auditing, testing, and updating, as necessary.
- Upload, organize and test e-learning materials and courses within the LMS.
- Conduct routine tasks related to scheduling, content maintenance, and data conversion.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to LMS users and group-specific training administrators across the organization.
- Train others on how to use and support the LMS effectively.
Other:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in a healthcare, higher education, or research setting. Minimum 1 year of experience supporting a Learning Management System (LMS).
- Bachelor's degree or certification in Instructional Design or Education. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute.
- Excellent proficiency in content creation, including expertise in writing, content design, and user experience.
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theories.
- Demonstrated proficiency with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
- Technical, customer service, training, and problem-solving skills related to LMS administration and support of training administrators.
- Strong project management, organizational, detail-orientation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
- Willing to work both remotely and on-campus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with large scale technology implementation.
- Demonstrated proficiency using and supporting e-learning delivery in LMS platforms (e.g., Cornerstone) including understanding of AICC/SCORM technology standards.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $75,150 to $112,674, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
