Working jointly with the Transplant and Cell/Gene Therapy medical Directors, the Clinical Director for Transplant and Cell/Gene Therapy (CGT) is responsible for the leadership and administration of nursing care and clinical operations within the division, including UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC) outpatient clinics, inpatient oncology units, the Cancer Care Network, and other departments within UC Davis Health (UCDH) conducting cell and gene therapy clinical trials. The Clinical Director of Transplant and Cell/Gene Therapy is responsible for managing and administrating all facets of the stem cell transplant and cell and gene therapy programs, including 8:11 federal/state regulatory compliance requirements, and maintaining compliance with FACT-JACIE regulatory standards. 

 

• Current Bone and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN).

• A valid California Registered Nurse License.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a master's degree in nursing or a related field, such as Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), or equivalent.

• Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is accepted.

• Minimum of 5 years in progressive nursing leadership experience.

• Experience with or In-depth knowledge of the Magnet Recognition Program.

• Ability to learn UCDH operations to be effective resource to executive leaders, clinic managers, providers, and staff.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead large scale improvement efforts, experienced in project management, excellent communication and people skills needed to effectively, develop, coach, mentor, and lead various team with oversight of the day- to-day operations of the clinics.

• Professional effectiveness as demonstrated by the ability to establish clear and challenging goals, and develop effective, realistic long- and short-range plans, maintain information, schedules and systems in an organized fashion, exercise reason and sound judgment by seeking input from others providing a broad perspective and building consensus.

• Ability to apply the principles of the California Nurse Practice Act, the California Board of Registered Nursing, the California Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatry Technicians, and California medical assistant laws and regulations.

• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a complex and highly matrixed organization with accountability to clinical, operational leadership, and medical directors.

• Possesses the ability to interface effectively and productively with all UCDH clinical sites and allied departments, including Specialty Pharmacy and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.

• Provide in?uence and direct coordination with School of Medicine leadership and Cell and Gene therapy clinical trials staff within the School of Medicine to ensure seamless and safe care for investigational research and standard of care.

• Possesses the ability to integrate the understanding of UCDH's mission, commitments, and projects within a service-oriented healthcare environment.

• Possesses the ability to incorporate knowledge of the Joint Commission and Title 22 rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all cell and gene therapy programs and operations.

• Planning skills to analyze program goals and objectives given current and potential healthcare trends, to make accurate short- and long-term projections to establish program needs and resource requirements, and to advocate to secure potential sources of funds and revenues to meet those requirements.

• Ability to interact with high-level federal and state government o?cials and executives with external organizations. In addition to these leaders, interactions with faculty, administrative and clinical staff, health system executive staff, and campus leadership.

• Excellent communication skills, business and political acumen, sensitivity, and tact.

• Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to enable timely completion of tasks.

• Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with minimum direction.

 

• Nurse Executive Board Certified (NE-BC or NEA-BC). 

• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).  

• Clinical experience working with front line clinical teams responsible for the delivery of clinical care across the continuum related to both adult and pediatric Stem Cell Transplant, Cell and Gene Therapy, and Clinical Trials. 

• At least 2 years’ experience with project/program management in stem cell therapy. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Possess the ability to express assertively, collaboratively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing.

• Possess the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others to secure information and cooperation from various people.

• Strong leadership and management skills to provide planning, coordination, and direction to departmental staff and to propose innovative solutions to management problems; ability to rapidly resolve complex clinic/resource issues.

• Personnel management skills include developing position descriptions, recruiting, selecting, training, evaluations, and applying corrective action. Possess the ability to deal with highly con?dential and personnel matters—knowledge of applicable union contracts and staff personnel policies and procedures.

• Provide ongoing staff development/mentoring and serve as a role model for all personnel.

• Possesses the ability to exercise authority and direct, motivate, and inspire others.

• Planning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to anticipate, avert, or resolve issues of staffing, scheduling, and task allocation.

• Possesses the ability to be ?exible to maintain continuity of programs while considering individual staff needs and goals.

• Possesses understanding and skill in implementing patient care requirements within a highly regulated and consistently changing environment.

• Possesses the ability to understand health care issues within a broad perspective and to apply these issues to the clinical setting.

• Possess the ability to understand and respond to academic research requirements within the clinical setting and reconcile potential con?icts these requirements may have with clinical activities.

• Knowledge of electronic health records and applicable software tools.

• Knowledge of health care services reimbursement regulations and functional knowledge of clinical quality improvement initiatives and research processes.

• Knowledge of integrated delivery systems and demonstrated ability to work with physicians as the representative of a larger healthcare system.

• Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing processes to make independent clinical decisions and provide clinical leadership within the department.
