In addition to the essential functions noted in the Registered Nurse job description, the Professional Practice Coordinator (PPC) will be responsible for onboarding and orientation of clinical staff, guiding continuing education, providing staff with opportunities for professional growth and development, functioning as an educational resource and subject matter expert for staff, promoting improvement initiatives and processes, supporting and implementing evidence-based practice standards, supporting unit-specific needs, and providing direct patient care in an RN capacity. This position works collaboratively with Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, frontline staff, multi-disciplinary healthcare teams, and organizational leadership.
This role will be based at South Lake Union, and primarily support community site clinic practice. Occasional travel to community sites will be required.
Responsibilities
- Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients' adaptation to health changes
- Develops a plan of care based on patients' disease, symptoms, and response to treatment
- Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management
- Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
- Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc.
- Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care
- Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice
In addition to the Registered Nurse responsibilities, the PPC will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and facilitate new hire orientation curriculum
- Support professional growth and development for frontline staff by supplying resources, organizing and teaching classes and demonstrations, and providing educational opportunities
- Function as unit-based education and practice resource
- Assess professional nursing practice and intervene when knowledge gaps are identified to promote standardized, evidence-based nursing care
- Contribute to systemwide initiatives by supporting change management and providing unit-based expertise
- Support students and learners
- Actively create, evaluate, and maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and staff and patient education materials to reflect evidence-based standards for clinical practice and research
- Actively collaborate with leadership to set organizational goals, unit goals, implement process improvements, and measure outcomes
- Serve as a consultant for Electronic Health Record improvement & optimization as a subject matter expert
- Participate in or lead committees and workgroups to support organizational practice
- Support unit-specific research implementation as needed
- Assist in investigation and response to incident reports filed in Patient Safety Net
- Provide direct patient care in a unit-based RN capacity per RN job description
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree
- CITI Training - Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Research (required within 6 months of hire)
- ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 6 months of hire) if required by unit
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or NLC multistate license.
- Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
- Additional certification may be required dependent upon department.

Preferred:
- Master of Science in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Leadership
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or BMT RN
- ACLS and/or PALS AHA Health Provider Card
- LEAN or CPI application
- 2 years of previous RN Oncology experience

The hourly pay range for this position is from $45.35 to $84.80 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.
