Requirements

• Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery or critical care, with direct experience in cardiothoracic procedures preferred.
• Strong understanding of cardiothoracic anatomy, pathophysiology, and surgical interventions.
• BLS certified.

 Duties & Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

• Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons in the evaluation and management of patients in the outpatient clinic setting
• Conduct pre-operative assessments and assist in developing individualized care plans for patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures (e.g., heart surgery, lung surgery, foregut surgery)
• Perform post-operative care, wound care, and management of complications
• Provide comprehensive patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and recovery
• Provide outpatient care for cardiothoracic patients, including but not limited to monitoring vitals, interpreting lab results and imaging studies, and adjusting medications as necessary
• Perform office-based procedures such as tunneled pleural catheter (Pleu-x) removal
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and coordinate care across specialties
• Participate in team meetings, patient care conferences and case discussions
