Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

• The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for facilitating the fulfillment of the VAMCHS mission - vision and values
• The incumbent performs at an advanced level of nursing practice characterized by application of the evidence in practice decision making and accompanied by increased complexity of clinical decision-making
• The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
• The incumbent works under the guidance of the Pulmonary attending and lung mass attending
• The NP will collaborate with thoracic surgery and the lung mass team to follow the veterans after they have received initial cancer treatment The Pulmonary/Lung Mass NP major duties and responsibilities: Independently manages a panel of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and lung nodules with an emphasis on lung health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
• Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
• Orders and interprets labs - pulmonary function tests - and diagnostic imaging studies
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions for common lung diseases
• Evaluates and treats outpatients common lung conditions - including ordering the necessary diagnostic tests and evaluating them
• Initiates referrals and consults to other specialty services as appropriate
• Provides education to patients and their families regarding their underlying lung condition Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes

• Will collaborate with physicians - peers - and staff across the healthcare community in order to develop and implement both individualized and interdisciplinary treatment plans for patients receiving Pulmonary Lung Nodule - Lung cancer screening and Lung Cancer specialty care services
• Will collaborate with multidisciplinary tumor board to expedite care of veterans diagnosed with lung cancer - discuss with veterans and their families about cancer diagnosis and collaborate with other team members to facilitate the continuum of cancer care - including a warm handoff to the oncology services
• The NP will perform direct patient care within the Pulmonary and Medical Care units
• The incumbent functions as a licensed independent practitioner collaborating with physicians - peers - and appropriate others in the health care community to develop and implement individualized patient treatment plans and coordinate appropriate care to resolve current pulmonary issues
