IU Health is seeking a patient-focused Gastrointestinal Oncologist to join the Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate should demonstrate critical thinking skills, be proactive and also be a team player.
Position Detail
Full-time Days, Mon-Fri 8a-4:30p
No Call Schedule
100% Outpatient
Experience in an academic or teaching hospital setting
Familiarity with chemotherapy regimens and oncology protocols
Interest in participating in clinical trials or academic research
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments of oncology patients in the outpatient setting, including history, physical exams, and review of diagnostic results.
Monitor for chemotherapy-related toxicities and manage side effects in collaboration with the oncology team.
Evaluate patients for readiness to initiate or continue chemotherapy and other systemic treatments
Provide symptom management and supportive care throughout the cancer treatment continuum.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, side effects, and symptom management.
Participate in tumor boards, clinical rounds, and academic conferences as appropriate.
Document all patient interactions and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical research efforts as applicable.
Guaranteed 4-hour administrative time
Minimum job requirements
NP/PA graduate with Oncology experience
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Oncology preferred: GI Oncology experience is a plus
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care in an academic environment
