Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Leukemia and Lymphoma - Outpatient
This is an outpatient position with standard business hours, Mon-Fri. This position works alongside 5 attending physicians, one Nurse Practitioner, fellows, and nurse coordinators to provide excellent, patient-centered, outpatient care for children and young adults with leukemia and lymphoma.
The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in pediatric oncology, will see patients independently in the clinic, and will help write chemotherapy orders, perform lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirates, and coordinate care for patients.
Job Duties:
Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute leukemia and lymphoma.
Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Writes inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy orders to be cosigned by the attending physicians.
Available to cover satellite clinics as needed.
Prepares history and physical and medical reconciliation for patients needing inpatient chemotherapy admissions.
Attends weekly leukemia team meetings and monthly division meetings.
Performs lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy instillation and bone marrow biopsy and aspirates.
Utilizes the most up-to-date and evidence-based practice for plan of care and ability to alter the plan according to family needs and effectiveness of the plan.
Serves as an educational resource to patient/family/ nursing staff/ provider team and other health care teams as needed.
Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, certifying body renewals, seeking educational offerings when available, and participates in the professional development of others, which may include Advanced Practice Provider students, residents, and medical students. Acts as a preceptor/mentor for those new in the department.
Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by bringing up concerns in an appropriate manner, reporting through appropriate channels, and ensuring change of practice when necessary. Demonstrates shared accountability of safe practice.
Qualifications:
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an Accreditation Commission for Nursing (ACEN) and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in pediatric primary care of family medicine.
2+ years of experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, pediatric oncology or adult oncology experience preferred.
