Medical/Surgical unit specializes in general medicine and cardiac telemetry monitoring. M/S RN responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to: · Provides bedside cares to patients who are preparing for or recovering from a surgical procedure or for acutely ill adults, often with complex health conditions. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Medical conditions include cardiac, respiratory, infectious, renal, hematology, endocrine, psychiatric, and oncology disease processes. · Performs and documents ongoing assessments including observation, physical examination, laboratory and other diagnostic results, and patient response to procedural intervention. · Participates in the identification and clarification of patient needs, as evidenced by participation in multidisciplinary care planning, implement, and evaluation to achieve optimal patient outcomes. · Implements, reviews and revises plan of care according to any change in the patient's status. · Evaluates the patients' medical history, diagnostic test results and treatment plan, working in collaboration with the patient, patient's family members and healthcare team to meet the patients' needs and plan of care. · Prepares, administers, and documents administration of scheduled, and as needed medications via all routes; (IV (Intravenous), IVP(Intravenous push), PO (Per Os), SQ (Subcutaneous) and IM (Intramuscular). · Follows up on PRN( Pro Ra Nata) administered medications, timely (within 4 hours) of administration, to assure patient's resolution of the complaint. · Monitors and adjusts medication rates for medication drip ordered protocols, such as heparin and diltiazem drips. · Transfuses blood and blood component products. · Provides broad range of skilled nursing cares such as, complex wound dressing changes, inserting Foley and SP (Suprapubic) catheters, NG (Nasogastric) tubes and IVs. · Safe use of specialized medical equipment such as telemetry, patient lifts, IV and Tube feeding pumps, evacuation equipment and other medical equipment. · Monitors and interprets patients' vital signs and cardiac rhythms (as ordered), documenting the same. · Reporting abnormal readings, findings or change in the patients' condition to the provider, in a timely manner. · Answers questions and educates patients and their families on their primary admission diagnosis, surgical procedures, test results, healthcare plan and goals. · Maintains and updates patient health records, competent in the use of electronic health record management systems such as CPRS and BCMA. · Facilitates safe discharge planning and patient education, collaboratively with the healthcare team. · Functions independently, handles multiple priorities through time management and communication and must be able to adapt to the constant changing turbulent environment. · Collaborates with members of the surgical team and multi-disciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for the scheduled, unscheduled, or emergent surgical procedures. · Demonstrates knowledge and competencies in acute care nursing and implements nursing protocols, per policy to expediate patient care needs accordingly. · Completes an admission physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments, offering counseling for positively screened alcohol or tobacco use.
