The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch)/University of Washington (UW)/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium (Consortium) is a research collaboration comprising Fred Hutch and its strong collaborators, the UW and Seattle Children's. The Consortium is recognized as a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center through its dedication to developing research programs, faculty, and facilities that will lead to better approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
The Office of Community Outreach & Engagement (OCOE) is an integral component of the Consortium. It is housed at Fred Hutch in Seattle with field offices in Sunnyside and Spokane. The mission of the OCOE is to reduce cancer health inequities throughout the cancer care and research continuum by promoting relevant collaborative research and programs. The OCOE uses a qualitative and quantitative data-driven approach to identify our region's greatest needs and strategic research aims to address those needs, which are prioritized and implemented in partnership with our regional Community Action Boards and our Internal Advisory Council of leaders and faculty from throughout the Consortium.
The OCOE is seeking a Project Coordinator for the Indigenous Cancer Health Equity Initiative (ICHE-i) who shares our mission to achieve cancer health equity by using bidirectional, anti-racist, equitable community-engaged approaches in outreach, programming, and research. The position is based at the Fred Hutch office in Seattle, and comes at an exciting time for the Consortium, as it broadens its reach throughout Washington. The Project Coordinator for the ICHE-i will coordinate administrative, research, and programmatic tasks in support of the ICHE-i's scientific and programmatic objectives.
The work of the Project Coordinator includes developing project timelines and communication, handling administrative tasks including meeting scheduling with internal and external partners, note-taking and follow-up, coordinating event details, and carrying out complex research and administrative assignments including community-facing communications materials development. This role requires experience working with Tribes and/or urban Indian communities, and Tribal organizations. Candidates must be familiar with Tribal Sovereignty, governance, and community norms.
Schedule is typically Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, but flexibility for evening and/or weekend events may be required.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will report to the Project Manager for the ICHE-i. Under general supervision, the Project Coordinator will work independently in performing daily responsibilities. The Project Coordinator's primary responsibility is to facilitate and coordinate interactions with individuals and groups to support the ICHE-i in its inreach and outreach activities within the Washington State catchment area. The Project Coordinator will support outreach and research implementation plans, assist in monitoring progress, communicate effectively with the ICHE-i team when roadblocks exist, assist in developing proposed solutions, and conduct daily operational work to ensure that the overall project goals and deliverables are met. Excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work within a collaborative team are critical to this position. The Project Coordinator will perform some or all the job duties listed below.
Project Coordination (50%)
- Facilitate communications with the ICHE-i team, serving as ICHE-i liaison to Fred Hutch departments, external vendors, Cancer Consortium departments and outside collaborators.
- Support the development, facilitation, and maintenance of ICHE-i's academic, research, Tribal, and urban Indian community partnerships.
- Manage project database(s) and work with the team(s) in developing and upgrading the database to ensure maximum effectiveness for regular tracking and reporting.
- Establish timelines and coordinate tasks to successfully plan and implement ICHE-i events and other events as needed with OCOE Leadership direction.
- Coordinate bidirectional communication and engagement activities with Tribes and urban Indian communities to align with ICHE-i and OCOE goals.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of culturally informed cancer prevention and health equity programming with community partners.
Administrative Support (40%)
- Coordinate administrative, research and outreach tasks, working with OCOE leadership and the ICHE-i team to ensure projects are completed according to timelines.
- Schedule ICHE-i meetings. Includes polling for availability, sending out calendar invites, taking notes and documenting decisions and action items and coordinating follow-up activities to ensure actions items/objectives are completed within designated time frame.
- Arrange community and institutional meetings with multiple stakeholders.
- Support monitoring event expenses, ensuring that expenditures are in accordance with budget, grant/contract regulations, and institutional guidelines.
- Assist with material development, website, and social media updates and postings.
- Support the development of materials that integrate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge for outreach and educational initiatives.
Research Project Support (10%)
- Support with the development and/or review of research materials which may include study protocols, consent forms, questionnaires, interview scripts, data collection instruments, and educational materials.
- Assist with participant recruitment and request and distribution of participant incentives according to research protocols.
- Coordinate efforts to document and monitor community-based participatory research activities to reflect ICHE-i and OCOE values.
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field (public health, community health, or closely allied field) required; OR Associate's degree with at least 2 years of professional experience in public health, disease prevention, and/or health promotion.
- Minimum of three years relevant project coordination experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience working with Tribes and/or urban Indian communities.
- Understanding of provision of Tribal health services, including the Indian Health Service, Contracted Health Services, and urban Indian clinical services.
- Valid WA State driver's license.
- Experience managing multiple consecutive projects from inception to completion.
- Demonstrated excellent human relations, facilitation, and influencing skills to deal effectively with a broad range of people.
- Demonstrated experience working in diverse and underrepresented communities, forming strategic alliances/partnerships, working with underrepresented communities.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Understanding and proven ability to work with communities experiencing health inequity.
- Must be culturally aware and sensitive to diverse populations in the Consortium's catchment area.
- In-depth knowledge of health and social issues facing Indigenous populations.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to think critically and synthesize complex issues to move projects forward.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to form respectful, productive working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple organizations and communities.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
- Experience working in an academic or scientific research environment.
- Experience working in public health, community health, health equity and/or health disparities research.
- Skills in database creation and management.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites, EndNote, REDCap, Airtable, Salesforce
- Experience with IRB/Human Subjects Research, and principles of Good Clinical Practice.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $31.21 to $46.80 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
