The role you’ll contribute:
The Oncology Financial Coordinator verifies benefits and obtains authorization of insurance for all treatment oncology services while being the service matter experts for consults, follow-ups, re-consultations, re-evaluations. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Reviews all Oncology accounts for accuracy of benefits and authorizations, as well as updated information entered by each site
Verifies and obtains insurance coverage for all new and established patients.
Attends and participates in all billing meetings and distributes pertinent information to appropriate staff. Educates the staff on updates, new information and changes in insurance areas and CMS guidelines.
Reviews coverage and explains specific patient responsibilities such as deductibles, copays, etc. to the patient.All information verified in writing to the patient.
Reviews the patient task list daily in the electronic medical record to identify authorization request.
Informs Reimbursement Manager, physician’s group network representative, and other assigned staff of authorization or benefit problems. Accurately documents and communicates authorization findings to appropriate staff and by noting in the electronic medical record.
Assist coordinating patients needing charity, self-pay contracts, and time payment agreements, based on patient’s ability to pay, for patients referred from physicians and/or self-referrals.
On request, provides patients with an estimated quote of charges for service.
Reviews denial reports to identify delinquent accounts and resolve problem accounts or accounts failing to meet payment plans or financial agreements.
Verifies proper authorizations from insurance companies for the initial visit, follow up visits, chemotherapy visits, radiation visits and injections visits and enters authorization number in the electronic medical record.
Resolves financial problems identified by the patient and addresses them in a timely manner.
Collaborates with the denials team with supporting documentation on radiation oncology denials.
Cross cover for the east region oncology departments.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent
One to two years’ experience in a medical office setting and financial assistance knowledge
