As a member of a robust Marketing & Communications team, the Brand Content Strategist will maintain the written voice and messages for the organization and develop content that supports and extends the Fred Hutch brand.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Content, the Brand Content Strategist will work on content strategy, written content projects and web content development in collaboration with other Marketing and Communications teams. This role focuses on creating strategic content that drives engagement, builds brand awareness and supports organizational objectives. The Brand Content Strategist will have significant copywriting, copyediting, marketing and content strategy experience, strong experience using brand voice guidelines, and the ability to develop concise and compelling content on complex scientific and healthcare topics.
The Brand Content Strategist will guide and develop the organization's brand-related narrative and marketing content. They will help maintain and evolve brand voice and messaging guidelines - and use those guidelines to develop content for a wide range of purposes. These may include drafting web copy to describe a new service, developing advertising copy to promote the service, drafting a video script and a social post to introduce the service. The Brand Content Strategist will maintain content for our channels, ensuring they keep up with the evolution of our organization while telling a consistent story aligned with our heritage and our brand. The Brand Content Strategist will be adept at quick turn projects, highly collaborative, skilled at working with leadership, and able to refine copy and ensure our brand voice is authentic, accurate and applied consistently. Working primarily in written mediums, the strategist must also be comfortable selecting or assessing photos, video or illustrations that align with our brand.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities
Brand content strategy 30%
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to develop, maintain and evolve Fred Hutch's brand voice and messaging guidelines, including how we use those guidelines for specific audiences
- Maintain and evolve Fred Hutch's organizational narrative, including our history and relevant sections of the website as well as external channels
- Provide strategic guidance about brand voice and messaging in the development of creative for a broad range of campaigns produced by Marketing and Communications
- Provide strategic support and guidance to other Fred Hutch teams developing content and campaigns to ensure brand alignment
Brand content development 50%
- Develop written copy for brand or service-line campaigns, including marketing and advertising materials, headlines, landing pages, digital ads, social posts/ads, billboards, audio scripts, video scripts, etc.
- Develop long-form materials and collateral for a range of audiences, including promotional or informational brochures, white papers, or annual reports
- Collaborate on integrated communications projects and marketing collateral development
- Review, edit and proof materials developed by internal teams and external agencies to ensure they adhere to the organization's brand architecture, messaging and writing style
- Copyedit and proof content for web, marketing and other materials
- Collaborate with marketing and analytics to measure the performance of our brand, messaging, content and advertising
Marketing & Communications support 20%
- Support a range of audience-focused initiatives with content expertise
- As part of the marketing team, assist with a variety of projects, events and initiatives as needed
- Support executive communications and presentations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing.
- Five years in a reporting, writing, or editing role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 years in a marketing, communications, creative agency or related experience
- 2 years in marketing copywriting or content development and strategy
- Strong writing, editing and proofing skills
- Familiarity with digital and non-digital marketing campaign collateral creation
- Strong analytical and critical thinking
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within and across departments
- Proficient with web content management systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience in a similar role in health care, nonprofit cancer foundation or scientific research organization is preferred
- Familiarity with social media platforms
- Familiarity with Adobe creative suite, Canva or similar
- Project management skills with experience tracking and managing multiple projects with differing priorities and deadlines
- Sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness
- Strong interest in Fred Hutch's mission

The annual base salary range for this position is from $77,976 to $112,674, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
