The role you’ll contribute:
As an Oncology Intake Advocate, you will be responsible for guiding patients through cancer center services at AdventHealth. The Oncology Intake Advocate ensures that the patient and their caregivers are able to access appropriate services in a timely manner with a high-degree of compassion and efficiency. This position is responsible for coordinating services and related appointments for all new and return patients among multiple providers. Perform insurance verification. Once patient is entered and approved for service, scan all appropriate documents into the system. Responsible to ensure that all referrals are entered into current software system after receiving intake and pulling appropriate documents from Cerner, Epic. Assist with answering incoming phone calls and distribute to the appropriate personnel. Attends meetings, including but not limited to; staff meetings, in-services, case conferences, educational classes, office meetings and/or organizational meetings. Gathers necessary demographic, insurance and clinical information from patient and enters into appropriate database.
Seeks appropriate resources and to resolve issues about the type, date or location of patient appointments ensuring oncology patient gets scheduled within targeted time.
Obtains patients’ authorization andverifies that all medical records, pathology slides and specimens, faxes and other items necessary for the initial visit have arrived.
Communicates with patient/caregiver as needed throughout process.
If socioeconomic issues exist, the intake Advocate will take point in putting the patient in touch with services; financial Advocate and/or social worker.
Assists with coordination of activities related to insurance pre-certification/authorization.
Builds relationships and effectively collaborates with internal providers, nursing staff and other hospital staff involved in the patients care and with members of the referring community.
Assure all appropriate new patient documents are into EMR.
Comply with all department policies, procedures, practices and standards of care.
Participate in orientation, in-service and staff meetings as scheduled.
Secures patient confidentiality by protecting patient information on and off duty.
Complete related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager or Director.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed
High School Grad or Equiv Required
Bachelor's Preferred
Basic computer skills required
Minimum of Two years’ experience working in a high-volume health-care environment
Excellent organizational skills, well-developed written telephone and personal communication skills are required
