The Medical Assistant, Certified func tionstaff during examination and procedures, collecting andpreparing lab oraton-sterile dressings, promoting patient/familyunderstanding of the e ducatng electrocardiograms, removing sutures/ staples,changing sterile a ndnory specimens, performing basic laboratory test in theclinic/office, takiional content and his/her involvement in theplan of care, and docume ntinasanintegral member of theinterdisciplinary healthcare team in provi dingdirect patient care. TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routin eadministrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System med icalpractice that assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination andtreatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.

Work Performed
Clinical responsibilities:The CMA takes me dical histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to patients, and prepares patients for examinationsand procedures.Patient c aresupport responsibilities may include assisting the medicaland nursing sg in the patient record.Other clinical support responsibilities include disposing ofcontaminated supplies, instrument processing, high level dis infectionand sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning prescript ions to apharmacy, preparing and administering medications as directed b yaphysician, and authorizing drug refills as directed. Performs othercli nical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.Administrat ive responsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephones, schedu les appointments toinclude arrive appointments in MaestroCare, checkoutp atients, andreferral scheduling; arranges for hospital admissions andlab oratoryservices, updates and files patient medical records, fills outins uranceforms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays an dcollections on account balances; correspondence, and ordering clinicala nd clerical supplies and forms.
