Nemours Children's Health seeks an accomplished physician-scientist and leader to serve as the Chief of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division at Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida in Orlando, located in the prestigious community of Lake Nona Medical City, a 650-acre health and life sciences park. In addition to Nemours Children's Hospital, Lake Nona Medical City is home to the University of Central Florida (UCF) Lake Nona Cancer Center, University of Florida (UF) Research & Academic Center, UCF Health Sciences Campus, UCF Lake Nona Medical Center, a new VA Medical Center, and the Guidewell Innovation Center. Growth and expansion of the pediatric Hematology/Oncology program at Nemours Children's Health in Central Florida is an important strategic priority for the organization with heavy resource investments in recent years and earmarked in coming years. The new Division Chief will lead this program's strategic growth and expansion and important Hematology/Oncology research in the coming years. The division is also part of the Nemours Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (NCCBD) with campuses in Jacksonville, Florida and Wilmington, Delaware as well, and the Chief will collaborate with the other campus Chiefs to further the Center's mission and strategic direction. NCCBD in Delaware is ranked as one of the country's Top Pediatric Cancer Centers as per US News & World Report.
Nemours Children's employs over 9,300 associates across four states, has 1.7 million patient encounters and $66.4 million in funding supporting nearly 300 research studies and clinical trials. Nemours Children's is not only recognized for its research and professional education but through their National Office of Policy and Prevention they're advocating for children's health at a federal, state and local level. Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida is one of four (4) children's hospitals that are members of Florida's Specialty Hospitals for Children who work tirelessly to ensure every Florida child has access to world-class specialized care. Their efforts recently led to $85M in State Funding.
Reporting to the Chair, Department of Pediatrics at Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida this position will provide strategic and operational leadership across all mission areas. The Division Chief will contribute to a growing statewide service line representing the largest pediatric Hematology/Oncology program in Florida and participating in NCI's Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). The Division Chief will be accountable for maintaining and expanding clinical, educational, and research programs including numerous clinical trials, guiding faculty development, participating in clinical teaching of medical students, residents, fellows, mentoring faculty, trainees, and medical students. The Division Chief will collaborate closely with the Bone Marrow transplantation and CAR-T cell programs at Nemours Delaware and Jacksonville and will lead the future development and maturation of new programs in Orlando, including bone marrow transplant and novel therapeutics.
Based in Orlando, the Division Chief, will build upon a division with a strong foundation and history. They will lead and build the current division, enhance current research and clinical trials, and grow the program through the recruitment of new faculty and expanded clinical programs. Collaborative opportunities exist across the Nemours Children's Health enterprise, including locations in Jacksonville, Florida, Pensacola, Florida, and Wilmington, Delaware. Generous support for a research program will be provided to the qualified candidate.
The ideal candidate will be a leader with a strong commitment to enhancing patient and family-centered care and outcomes. They will exhibit a collaborative leadership style and possess extensive experience in navigating complex highly matrixed environments. A distinguished record of advancing scientific programs and securing extramural funding in pediatric hematology/oncology is preferred. The candidate should have a proven track record of fostering accountability, effectively leading and managing teams and recruiting and developing faculty and staff. The ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and partners is critical to the success of the division. A medical degree (MD or DO) or MD/PhD, board certification in pediatric hematology/oncology/stem cell transplant and eligibility for an Associate Professor or Professor level appointment at UCF are essential requirements.
