Job Title: Assistant Manager - Clinical Operations - Emergency Department
Location: University Hospital, Indianapolis, IN
Schedule: Full Time, In-person with 40% of time spent during "off hours" (evenings, nights, and/or weekends)

Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager of Clinical Operations combines clinical experience and contemporary leadership practices with the IU Health Way to achieve excellent clinical outcomes. This role partners with the unit Manager to develop and implement action plans focused on quality and safety improvements, care affordability, and delivering exceptional patient and staff experiences. The incumbent leads the execution of these plans and analyzes their effectiveness. As a member of the interprofessional team, the Assistant Manager collaborates with the Manager to foster an environment where staff are empowered to achieve excellence in patient care and organizational outcomes. This position supports a 48-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in gastrointestinal surgical oncology patients, operating 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the unit Manager to develop and execute action plans for quality, safety, and patient and staff experience improvements.
- Lead implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of these plans, making adjustments as needed.
- Support a positive, patient-centered, and team-focused environment.
- Mentor and empower staff, promoting evidence-based practices and professional nursing standards.
- Assist in operational needs, staffing, and resource management to ensure high-quality care delivery.
- Analyze clinical data and performance metrics to inform continuous improvement efforts.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and staff engagement.
- Support onboarding, training, and ongoing staff development initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Active RN license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Additional advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.
- Some leadership experience (formal or informal) preferred but not required.
- Strong clinical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively during off-hours and in a fast-paced, complex environment.
