A qualified and motivated Research Technician I is sought to join the CCEH Lab in the Translational Sciences and Therapeutics Division (TST) of Fred Hutch. Fred Hutch provides a highly interactive and supportive environment for individuals interested in scientific research to grow and develop their future career. In this role, the candidate will perform essential laboratory work that supports various scientific research for investigators. The duties include bench-level experiments using cell selection devices; operating and understanding flow cytometry; compiling and verifying accuracy of data; performing calculations; and preparing charts, graphs and summaries.
Responsibilities
Works independently under the guidance of the senior technician, staff scientists, and/or post-doc in the lab, and in conjunction with the Principal Investigator, accomplishing the goals of the laboratory.
JOB DUTIES
- Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures, cell lines, and lab equipment.
- Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
- Maintain laboratory records and compile data for experiments and assays.
- Assist in statistical analyses.
- Interpret and report on experimental results.
- Maintain large informatics and cell databases.
- Work with various cryopreservation techniques and samples stored in a liquid nitrogen.
- Maintain cell cultures.
- Extract analytes from cells.
- Operate a flow cytometer and perform fluorescence-activated cell sorting.
- Prepare cell shipments to various research institutions.
- May supervise work-study students.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a biological science.
- Basic laboratory skills and scientific knowledge in the area of study.
- Self-motivated candidates with excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience.
- Proficiency and experience in cell cryopreservation, tissue culture, flow cytometry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, and cell purification techniques using autoMACS(r), CliniMACS(r), or comparable instruments.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
