The Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory provides histocompatibility and chimerism lab testing for patients (and their prospective donors) being evaluated for a hematopoietic stem cell transplant and monitored for engraftment after transplantation. The Clinical Immunogenetics Lab Supervisor oversees daily operations, monitors lab quality, recruits and manages staff, reviews performance and handle's disciplinary action when appropriate, and works with the Manager to ensure compliance with Fred Hutch policies and ASHI standards.
Responsibilities
- Assure the quality, completeness and maintenance of the laboratory's procedure, policy, and safety manuals.
- Supervise the daily operations, including scheduling, sample receipt, routine and special testing and establishing priorities.
- Interpret and review test results, oversee preparation of reports.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of laboratory's computer systems and the Laboratory Information System.
- Work with the Laboratory Director and Manager on strategic goals and long-term planning.
- Evaluate and oversee the introduction of new or improved technologies into the laboratory.
- Oversee the laboratory's Quality Assurance and proficiency testing programs and inspection preparations.
- Review performance and merit, ensure appropriate training and assess competency of staff.
- Manage staff expectations and facilitate conflict resolution. Troubleshoot technical problems for frontline staff.
As delegated:
- Review and authorize histocompatibility and chimerism reports.
- Assist Manager with administrative projects and laboratory improvement initiatives.
- Represent CIL in leadership meetings.
Qualifications
Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR An associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training that includes 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology and twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination AND have laboratory training that includes completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by an HHS-approved organization, or at least 3 months documented laboratory training is each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical or research lab experience performing histocompatibility testing.
- Clinical Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Clinical Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) with certified maintenance of continuing education through ACHI.
- Demonstrated ability to handle personnel conflicts and issues diplomatically
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
- In-depth knowledge of HLA theory, testing methods and ASHI Standards.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role.
Preferred:
- Clinical Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS)
- ASHI Inspector training/ ASHI Inspector
- Technical writing skills
- Experience supervising others.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $102,419 to $161,865 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
