The Kugel lab in the Human Biology Division is seeking an Undergraduate Research Intern to learn and work on a laboratory-based research project.This lab's research explores the biology of different transcriptional and genetic subtypes of cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic cancer; how the epigenome influences subtype determination; and discovering unifying biological characteristics that define these subtypes, which with deeper understanding could improve patient therapy.
This full-time summer intern will assist with ongoing studies and will help members of the research team with laboratory tasks related to animal models and murine genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and metabolism, proteomics, biochemistry, pharmacology, and genomics.
This position will provide an opportunity to learn about microbiology and genomics as applied to research. Fred Hutch Cancer Center is a unique place to work, with more than 300 faculty involved in a variety of research goals, working towards the elimination of cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death.
This is a temporary position.
Responsibilities
- Learn laboratory techniques, including standard molecular biology and microbiology techniques (nucleic acid isolation/manipulation/PCR/cloning/recombineering transformation, protein isolation/purification)
- Perform lab experiments under the guidance of the mentor or delegated staff
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Must have high-school degree or GED.
- Must be currently enrolled as undergraduate student in university or community college institution.
- Applicants must have excellent computer skills, including the ability to use MS Office suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent work ethic.
- Applicant must be flexible and able to work independently without supervision.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
