Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. These values are grounded in and expressed through the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. In this role, the individual will be at the leading edge of research and development, developing and implementing experimental and computational tools in a dynamic and scientifically rigorous environment. The incumbent will operate in a highly collaborative organization and engage with cross-functional teams of experimental and computational biologists and data scientists to drive the discoveries of human immunology in virus-host interaction. The successful candidate will be a scientifically curious team player and self-motivated learner with expert knowledge of functional genomics and human virus-host interaction at the single-cell levels and an interest in developing and using technology solutions to aid in our interpretation of complex biological data.An ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues from different disciplines will be essential.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, integrate, and summarize internal and external data and knowledge resources to enable data mining in a biological context.
- Develop and implement experimental and/or computational methods to integrate findings from diverse data sets (including Xenium spatial data, sc-RNAseq, CITE-seq, and sc-TCR.BCR) with additional biological data streams, generating deep biological knowledge and driving discoveries.
- Directly contribute to multiple stages of project development, manuscript preparation, and grant writing, and facilitate communication of findings to a broad audience.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, Systems Biology, or related fields.
- Minimum five years of research experience in computational immunology at academic institutions or private industry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated fluency in analyzing diverse large-scale NGS experimental datasets (sc-RNAseq, sc-spatial profiling, CITE-seq, sc-TCR/BCR, etc.).
- Programming skills with statistical analysis (Python and R) applications and the ability to distill complex data into interpretable visualizations.
- Demonstrated experience integrating results from multiple data sources (different 'omics data sets) and human immunology/virology knowledge bases to extract meaningful biological insights.
- Survey relevant literature on mucosal immunology, virology, and computational methods and introduce them to labs and colleagues.
- Experience with HPC, AWS, or GOOGLE cloud computing infrastructure and Linux environments.
- Strong publication record in applying functional genomics to human immunology and virology discoveries.
